For most of the country lawn-mowing season is upon us leaving many homeowners with the age-old question "which type of lawn mower is best for my yard?" This question comes about because there are so many different types of yards and so many different types of mowers. We will discuss different types of lawn mowers and what types of lawns each of them fit the best. Manual Reel Lawn Mowers Manual reel mowers are great for very small lawns that are flat and relatively smooth. If you have a small flat lawn this could be the best type of mower for you. Reel mowers are lightweight because they do not have an engine there are few moving parts so they last a long time without the need for many repairs and they are quiet.
Robotic lawn mowers have very different blades than the traditional mowers. First the blades are a lot smaller which play a large part as to why it is less likely to throw objects far away. Even though robotic lawn mower blades spin a lot faster and yields a better-cut quality than traditional mower blades the force behind the smaller blades just isnt enough to launch objects nearly as far as larger heavier blades. Also robotic lawn mowers blades are usually recessed or protected on all sides obstructing a clear pathway for flying objects to travel. Being an avid user and tester of robotic lawn mowers I have personally seen objects thrown for a maximum of 5 feet max from a robotic lawn mower. The objects rarely make it more than 8 inches off the ground and do not have nearly the amount of force behind them compared to if a traditional mower throws the same object.
First as the battery loses its charge the cutting ability of the mower will deteriorate causing multiple recharges if your lawn is too large to do on one charge. Next rechargeable batteries only last for a certain amount of time replacing them can be expensive nearly as much as purchasing a new mower. Lastly they do not work well if your grass is thick or your yard is rough. Electric Lawn Mowers Electric mowers are the big brother of battery-operated mowers. These types of mowers can be used on any lawn up to about three-quarters of an acre if you have enough extension cord.
The reel cannot throw small objects such as rocks or sticks like a gas or electric powered mower can. This means you can mow with peace of mind even while your children or pets are playing around the lawn. You are also highly unlikely to catch a finger or toe in the reel and cause any severe injury like you would with the gas or electric mowers. Reel mowers provide a nicer cut than rotary mowers as the grass blades are cut like scissors instead of being torn. This means your lawn will be more even the grass blades will be healthier and you will avoid brown tips. All of this combines to a greener healthier looking lawn. People generally also choose these types of mowers to get some exercise. Getting out in the fresh air and pushing the mower around is a great way to reconnect with nature while getting some light and exercise. owners report that using a reel mower actually doesnt take any more time than when they were using their gas mower mainly because of the lighter weight of the reel mower.
