Walk-behind lawn mowers vary according to many factors such as what fuels the movement how blades move what pushes the whole mower and what happens to grass clippings. The best type of walk behind depends mostly on the slope and size of your lawn: how many trees you have: and what is the condition of your lawn: smooth or weedy? Of course your workout also enters into your choice. Some people think that mowing is a good exercise while others may want it to be as easy as possible. Most rotary blade mowers can bag mulch or side discharge clippings easily. A reel mower can be equipped with a bag or just drop its clippings on the ground.
You will have to leave the cutting on the ground unless you wish to bag them to keep the newly cut lawn looking uncluttered. Like with reel/cylinder mowers the majority of these would be of very little use on commercial lawns but for a compact home lawn theyre ideal. Hover - Hover mowers are energized rotary push lawn mowers that make use of a turbine engine over the rotating blades to force air down so to produce an air cushion lifting the mower above the ground. Hover mowers are excellent for massive commercial lawns parks and fields and even for excessive grass areas. They are also equipped excellently to cut things such as shrubs due to their ability to hover. Ride-on (also known as riding or lawn tractors) - These are typically really popular for substantial commercial lawns school fields and parks. The person working with the mower can sit atop it operating the mower and literally riding it. Nearly all riding mowers use the horizontal (reel) rotating blade system accompanied by a lot of blades.
By removing the person this alone eliminates most causes of lawn mower injuries. Robotic lawn mowers are unlikely to clog. Take it from someone who has been an exclusively user of robotic lawn mowers for over 7 years - robotic mowers mow frequently and chop grass fine enough that the likelihood of clumps forming under the mower (or anywhere for that matter) are eliminated. But even if you attempt to lift the mower while it is operating the blade will immediately stop spinning. However if the blade(s) were to get snagged onto something the robotic lawn mowers computer is smart enough to shut down the blade(s) and signal for help.
Discharging grass clippings on to the lawn is often listed as a disadvantage to reel mowers. However we would disagree with this assessment as leaving the clippings on your lawn allows you to mulch your lawn at the same time as you mow. To mulch well clipping size needs to be small so again this works best if you mow your lawn regularly. If you dont or prefer to collect your clippings some models also have a grass catcher that comes with it or can be bought separately. Reel mowers are hard to push through tall grass. If your grass is extremely tall the first time you mow it you are going to have a hard time. From then on it will be easier but only if you mow regularly. If you prefer to only mow every few weeks then a reel mower will not likely work for you. All in all we think reel mowers are a great choice for many reasons but they arent for everyone. If you understand and are content with the basic limitations of reel lawn mowers then the next step is to read reviews and recommendations to find which is the best reel lawn mower for you. The environment and your heart will thank you.
